Buoyed by the early signs of revival in the economy, Delhi-based Somany Ceramics Ltd. is setting up a greenfield plant for wall and floor tiles near Ahmedabad. The company, which is expanding production capacity in tiles, has bought a 18 acre land for Rs 3 crore adjacent to its existing plant in Kadi.

A year ago, Gujarat's ceramic industry, concentrated in Saurashtra's Morbi-Thangadh area, was in serious trouble. However, news breaking in early November 2009 has seen a shift in China's policy towards the industry of the region and seems set to ensure a complete, and expanded, revival with as many as 45 new units set to come into the area.
